Chips

Taiwan or Korea?

Taiwan or Korea: who is bigger in chips? Taiwan's top 5 chip companies are worth $2.5 trillion, Korea's $2.2 trillion.

Numbers as of 10 Oct 2026

Which side did you guess? πŸ‘‡

We added up the five biggest chip companies in each place. By stock market value, on 9 Oct 2026.

Taiwan: about $2.5 trillion. TSMC alone is $2.07 trillion. That is 82% of the five. Then MediaTek, ASE, UMC and Nanya.

Korea: about $2.2 trillion. Samsung is $1.28 trillion. SK hynix is $892 billion. Together they are 98% of the five.

So Taiwan is one giant. Korea is two.

The catch: they mostly do different jobs. Taiwan builds the main chips. Korea builds the memory chips. An AI computer needs both.

Also: Samsung makes phones and TVs too, so not all of its value is chips. Stock values change every day.

Save this for the next chip headline.
