The full story
Which one do you fly most?
The engine is called LEAP. GE Aerospace builds it together with France's Safran, in a company they own half each (CFM).
- Boeing 737 MAX: it is the only engine you can get. Southwest, United, Alaska and Ryanair all fly 737 MAXs.
- Airbus A320neo family: airlines choose this engine or one from Pratt & Whitney. American Airlines picked it for all its A321neos (Feb 2026).
The catch: not every Airbus jet has it. Delta, for one, chose Pratt & Whitney's engine for its A321neos.
So in the Boeing vs Airbus fight, GE and Safran get paid on every 737 MAX and on many Airbus jets too.
GE Aerospace trades as GE in New York. Safran trades in Paris.
