Stocks all night?

50 companies blocked their shares from a 24/7 venue run by the NYSE's owner. Apple, Amazon and Tesla haven't so far.

The full story

Would you trade Apple at 3am on a Sunday?

ICE, which owns the NYSE, and crypto exchange OKX plan a venue for digital copies of stocks: tokens backed by real shares a broker holds, trading day and night.

  • On 4 Oct it named 62 companies
  • By 30 Oct, 50 companies had objected, which stops this venue offering their shares
  • 7 of the 50 weren't on that first list, so 43 of the 62 objected and 19 didn't
  • Among the 19: Apple, Amazon, Tesla, Netflix, Home Depot, Boeing

Caveat: companies gave no reasons, and not objecting isn't a yes. JPMorgan says its no doesn't rule out joining later. A no covers only this venue. It isn't live yet, and the list can change.

Why it matters: trading all night could change when a stock's price moves, and the companies get a say in it.
