Who does ChatGPT pay?
You pay ChatGPT. Then who gets paid? One name on this map is not a tech company.
OpenAI rents computing power from cloud companies. Microsoft Azure and CoreWeave are two of them, not the full list.
Those clouds run on Nvidia chips. Nvidia buys fast memory from Micron and SK hynix.
Then there is electricity. In September 2024 Microsoft signed a 20-year deal to buy power from Constellation, so that Three Mile Island Unit 1 can reopen. That unit closed in 2019. It is not the unit from the 1979 accident; that was Unit 2. Constellation says it expects to spend about $1.6 billion to bring it back. The plant is not running yet. Constellation says it expects a 2027 restart, and that still needs approvals.
The power deal is for Microsoft's data centers in general, not for ChatGPT alone. This map shows who does business with whom, not how your subscription is divided.
Which name here did you not expect?
