The full story
Who owns Zelle?
Zelle is run by Early Warning Services. Seven big US banks own that company together: • Bank of America • JPMorgan Chase • Wells Fargo • Capital One • PNC • Truist • U.S. Bank
Zelle moved $1.2 trillion in 2025. Zelle moved $1.2 trillion in 2025. More than 2,300 banks and credit unions use the network, so the app you send money with is often run by your bank's rivals.
Its two big rivals each have one owner: • Venmo belongs to PayPal. • Cash App belongs to Block.
The catch: how much of Zelle each bank owns is not public. Every line is drawn the same for that reason, not because the shares are equal.
Zelle itself is not on the stock market. Its seven owners are, worth about $1.84 trillion together (25 Oct 2026), from JPMorgan Chase at about $880 billion to Truist at about $59 billion. Those are the banks' own values, not their stakes in Zelle.
